For several years, virtual assistants such as Alexa or Siri have been accompanying us every day to make our lives easier. Services capable of opening new ways of interacting with users and, in turn, perform a greater number of functions thanks to advances in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). If we focus on advanced telecare, the sector has not yet managed to effectively implement a virtual assistant with AI capable of meeting the needs of the elderly in an agile way and adapted to their life circumstances.

Nowadays, we live daily with all kinds of assistants that help us find documents on computers, search for locations more easily, create reminders of important appointments and even call our loved ones by simply sending a voice command. At Intelligent Data, when we see these kinds of functionalities, we ask ourselves: how could we apply them in an advanced telecare service?

How would a virtual assistant for telecare help?

Today, any virtual assistant allows interaction between user and device through voice commands. The user requests an action, such as making a call, and the assistant manages the process within the device to launch the call. The same system works to perform other activities such as consulting alerts or reminders, checking upcoming appointments, or making preset queries such as the weather.

In the current state of the art of telecare devices, the systems do not have any type of virtual assistant to perform these basic functionalities in other intelligent systems. Elderly people are, in these cases, those who would be most favored when introducing a virtual assistant through the simple and convenient management of such basic guidelines as:

  • Medication intake.
  • Help desk schedule reminders.
  • Notification of medical appointments.
  • Voice commands for actions such as checking the time or making a call.

Artificial intelligence and conversation in an assistant

The advent of artificial intelligence in these systems is allowing virtual assistants to become fully functional systems capable of offering natural and fluid conversations with their users. This integration enables the following functionalities:

  • Learning from the assistant hosted on each device to learn from user behavior.
  • Mold your conversational style to their mood and adapt to their needs.
  • Organically select the tone of voice and speed of speech according to the user.

We are currently training the artificial intelligence of our assistant to use the data from the sensors associated with our ID Vita Home devices to delve into the user's daily habits, as well as using the microphone and camera to learn the user's mood. A unique and differentiating way to use all the multimedia capabilities of our device along with all the possibilities of a virtual assistant with built-in artificial intelligence.

From Intelligent Data we continue working on the integration and development of this advanced virtual assistant with a view to its deployment in the future together with our new advanced telecare terminals such as ID Vita Home.
